2015 Workshop Schedule

Here you can find a tentative schedule for the workshop. The schedule is organized around "problems of the day" where a group of session chairs organizes a discussion around a theme central to the topic of this workshop. Below we are suggesting a first set of "problems of the day", with an educated guess on potential morning Session-Chairs. If you'd like to be a Session Chair for a specific topic, just check with Giacomo Indiveri The schedule is likely to change and morph following the dynamics of the workshop and the desires of the participants.

Sessions are not 45min one-way presentations. Rather they are meant to be open discussions that should involve all the participants as much as possible. More details on this unconventional schedule, are here.

The Session-Chairs responsible for managing the discussion are expected to:

  • give a short description of the problem to set the stage, if they wish,
  • ask (sometime beforehand) relevant workshop participants to prepare some arguments for the discussion,
  • get as many of the workshop participants excited about the discussion and involved in it,
  • make sure one or more volunteers take minutes of the discussion and add it to the wiki.

Power-point, and pre-packaged presentations are banned. But we will provide flip-charts and a digitizing tablet to draw on (and eventually project pictures and data if absolutely necessary). The schedule will evolve and change very dynamically, on a daily or even hourly basis.

The schedule is also available as a calendar file (ICS).

A typical day

  • Early morning session (9:00 - 10:15) with intro/tutorial on the "problem of the day"
  • Late morning session (10:45 - 12:00) with open discussion on the "problem of the day"
  • Afternoon session (14:30 - 17:00) with hands-on projects and work-groups
  • Evening session (19:00 - 20:00) with topic discussion-groups
  • Night (from 21:30 on) with hands-on projects and work-groups

Work-group projects and time-slots will be progressively defined and set-up during the meeting (see last year's schedule to see how dense it can get).

The daily breaks include:

  • Breakfast is open from 7:30 to 9:00 every morning
  • Coffee breaks are scheduled from 10:15 to 10:45
  • Lunch break is from 12:00 to 14:00
  • Sports + Happy hour: from 17:00 to 19:00 participants are "forced" to take a social/sports break. As incentive, there will be a happy hour period from 18:00 to 19:00 in which the workshop will cover 2 EUR per drink (for as long as the budget lasts).
  • Dinner is served from 19:30 to 21:30
